COVID-19 Update, October 28, 2020

In a press conference on October 27, 2020, it was announced that the measures for schools put in place earlier in October will remain in effect, with an addition of one new measure for Secondary III students. Please see below for a list of these measures.

  • In elementary schools, all protocols remain the same.

  • Face coverings: In secondary schools, face coverings will be mandatory for all students at all times, including in class and outside on school property. Students will only be permitted to remove their face coverings while they are: eating/drinking, in a situation where the activity cannot be performed with a face covering (i.e., physical education) or seated in an auditorium and 1.5 m away from other spectators.

  • Secondary IV and V students: All students in Grades 10 and 11 will shift to a hybrid model of learning. Students at these grade levels will attend school every other day, with schools determining the nature of instruction on the day students remain at home.

  • ** NEW ** Secondary III students: The Ministry has directed us to reduce by 50% the number of Secondary III students in our schools on a given day. As such, effective November 2, all students in Grade 9 will also shift to a hybrid model of learning. Students will attend school every other day. Your child’s school is working on its plan to respond to this directive and will communicate specifics for your child in the coming days.

Students who have a health condition that makes them vulnerable due to COVID-19 may be exempt from the compulsory physical attendance by providing a medical note that states that the student can not attend school due to the pandemic. Students living in the same household as an individual who has a health condition that makes that person vulnerable due to COVID-19 may also be exempt.
To request an exemption, complete the request form and submit required documents to your school principal.
