To the Lester B. Pearson Community,
The situation with respect to COVID-19 is evolving by the hour. Today, Premier Legault announced new measures designed to slow the spread of the virus including the closure of cinemas, gyms, bars and other locations where large numbers of people may normally congregate.. At 1:15 Sunday afternoon, we received a revised directive from the Ministry of Education stating that there is to be no parent or student access to school buildings whatsoever during the period of shutdown. To date, that shutdown is scheduled to run until Friday March 27th. Any previously shared local plans to allow brief and limited access for picking up essential personal items are now void.
We recognize that these are extraordinary times and that this situation may be creating enormous stress and/or anxiety in the community. Be assured that the measures being put in place are designed to help us manage this crisis and your understanding, cooperation and support are critical. We would like to assure you that while the number of reported cases in Quebec has increased, to date we have not had a confirmed case of COVID-19 in any of our schools. For those wanting to speak with their children about this situation, both the American Association of School Psychologists and the U.S. Center for Disease Control have posted excellent resources in this regard.
We will continue to keep you informed as the situation develops.
